US officials told a delegation of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria that US presence in North East Syria will continue to further support the AANES.
A delegation, consisting of officials of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, today held a meeting with the Under Secretary for Political Affairs of the United States Department of State.
İlham Ahmed, Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) Management Committee Leader, Nazire Gewriye, Autonomous Administration Co-Chair for the Jazira Region, Sinem Muhammed, SDC Washington Representative, Bessam Sakar, SDC Management Committee member, and Khasam Al-Yusuf, Deir ez-Zor Council Co-Chair were all present in the meeting.
Joey Hood, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs and David Brownstein, US Deputy Special Envoy for Syria are understood to have been present in the meeting.
US officials shared their willingness to continue supporting the AANES, also stating that the US presence in North East Syria would continue, according to sources in the US who shared information regarding the meeting with Medya News.
Sources also said that the US side assured the AANES delegation that they will also continue to support the reconstruction of North East Syria’s destroyed infrastructure and to work together with AANES in their reconstruction efforts.
Another item on the agenda of the meeting is learned to have been related to the “political solution” in North and East Syria.
US officials stated that they are committed to continue to support AANES for achieving peace and stability in North and East Syria through a political resolution.
An initial meeting was held between a high-level delegation from the AANES, headed by Ilham Ahmed, and US officials, at the White House on 25 September, and possible solutions to the ongoing crisis in Syria was discussed.
It was contended by both parties that a solution could be found only through the internal dynamics in Syria as the US delegation affirmed support for the Autonomous Administration towards a solution.
