SI NEWS – Toronto
The Labourers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) stand united in honouring a tradition that began more than a century ago when courageous workers overcame hostility, threats and violence and join together for better lives, higher wages and safer workplaces. The foundation of our great organization was proudly built on diversity, established in 1903, LiUNA sought to raise the voice of the unheard, build stronger futures and bring justice to working people. Our foundation was proudly built on a Brotherhood and a Sisterhood, a united union family that continues to grow across the labour movement today. This year as we mark Labour Day, we reaffirm our commitment to raising standards for workers and employers on the job, reaching out to a new generation of workers yearning for a better life and maintaining the integrity of our organization in honour, justice and strength.
LiUNA proudly honours and celebrates the giants before us, the Men and Women who built this great country of Canada, our proud Retirees. The sacrifice, determination and perseverance of our retired Brothers and Sisters paved the foundation of our organization and their tremendous leadership, legacy and voice across the labour movement will continue to be celebrated today. We would not be here today if it were not for their bravery and perseverance to band together and fight for improved workers rights. We also honour and celebrate you, the giants of today, who have risen to the occasion of this unprecedented and uncertain time, fearlessly and without trepidation. We applaud your highly-skilled, tireless work efforts in building stronger communities across North America. I am tremendously proud of each and every one of you and we must continue to lead by example and remain a leading force across the labour movement.
Brothers and Sisters, on behalf of myself, and LiUNA leadership across Central and Eastern Canada, we wish you and your families a Happy, Safe Labour Day Weekend. Stay Safe, Stay Strong.
