The New York Kurdish Film Festival announces the 6th Edition will be held at the historic Village East Angelika Theater, October 14-16, 2022.

Established in 2017 by Ms. Xeyal Qertel, the New York Kurdish Film Festival is the signature event of the Kurdish Cultural Center of New York a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The festival features feature length, documentary, and short films from across the Kurdish diaspora.  The New York Kurdish Film Festival celebrates and spotlights Kurdish filmmaking and storylines.

Film entries were reviewed by a panel of volunteers including artists, Kurdish language experts, and actors. Films represent all areas of greater Kurdistan ranging from Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. Films typically have English subtitles.

“We delighted to feature more than 20? films in our 6th edition of the Kurdish Film Festival,” said Qertel, the festival founder. “This year the film festival will also include Kurdish authors, dancing, and musicians. We are thankful for our sponsors and volunteers—including students—that help bring the Kurdish Film Festival to people in the New York metropolitan area.”

Opening Night, October 14, will feature the film Cîran (Neighbors) a drama from award-winning director Mano Khalil, playing at the Village East Theater at [time]. Actor Jay Abdo will join the audience for Q&A. The opening film will be preceded by our Opening Night reception.

Enjoy meeting fellow festival attendees and special guests. Traditional Kurdish foods and tea will be sampled during the reception.

The film festival is proudly sponsored by Justice for Kurds, The Joseph Handleman I Believe in You Foundation, and other Kurdish community supporters. There are additional sponsorship opportunities to partner with the 2022 NYKFF.
